Widening of Route 42

The widening of U.S. 42 for a center dual left turn lane will begin April 4. (although it appears they are running behind) Work will start with the construction of temporary pavement on the east side of U.S. 42. Upon completion, traffic will be switched to the east side, with construction of new pavement on the west side to follow. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained through the course of the project, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The $8.3 million contract was awarded to Fechko Excavating Inc. of Medina. The project includes the addition of a center turn lane along the entire length of U.S. 42 from Winwood Drive to Butler Warren Road, the construction of left turn lanes on both legs of Dimmick Road and the construction of crosswalks and updated traffic signals with Dimmick Road and West Chester Road. During construction, access to all residential and commercial properties will be maintained and completion is expected by August 2012, according to ODOT.
